Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Lone Tradie is a job management tool for solo tradespeople. This policy explains what information we hold, why we hold it, and what you can do about it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.

The short version: your customer records and business data belong to you. We don't sell them, we don't use them for advertising, and there are no third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this site or in the app.

Who we are

Lone Tradie (“we”, “us”) operates lonetradie.com and the application at lonetradie.com/app. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights below, contact support@lonetradie.com.

Information we hold

Your account

  • Username and, if you provide one, your email address.
  • Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it and cannot tell you what it is.
  • Your business profile: contact name, business name, trade, phone, email, address, tax settings, currency, timezone and display preferences.
  • An optional business logo, if you upload one.

Business data you enter

  • Customer records: names, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses and any notes you add.
  • Jobs, job templates, quotes and invoices.
  • Income and expense entries.

Some of this is personal information about your customers. You decide what to record about them, so in respect of that data you are the one responsible for having a proper basis to hold it, and we act as your service provider in storing it for you.

Your public page

If you choose to publish a business page, the details you select for it become publicly visible on the internet, including to search engines. Nothing is published until you turn it on, and you control which fields appear. Enquiries sent through that page include the sender's name, contact details and message, and are delivered to your account inbox and/or your email address depending on your settings.

Billing

If you subscribe, we store the identifiers Stripe gives us for your customer and subscription, the status of that subscription and the date it next renews. That is enough to tell whether your account is paid up; it contains no card details.

Technical information

  • A session cookie so you stay signed in. It is strictly necessary, contains only your account identifier, role and an expiry, and lasts up to seven days.
  • Your light/dark theme choice, kept in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers.
  • Your IP address, processed transiently to apply rate limits and block abuse such as brute-force sign-in attempts. It is held in memory only and is not written to a database for this purpose.
  • Error diagnostics when something goes wrong: the error message and stack trace, the page or endpoint involved, your browser's user-agent string, and your account identifier where you were signed in. These help us fix faults.

Cookies

We use one cookie: the sign-in session. There are no advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, so there is nothing to consent to or opt out of.

How we use it

  • To provide the service — storing your jobs, customers and finances, and showing them back to you.
  • To sign you in and keep your account secure.
  • To send you service email: address verification, password resets, and occasional notices about your account or trial. We do not send marketing email.
  • To publish your business page, if you have enabled it.
  • To diagnose faults and prevent abuse of the service.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. We share it only with the infrastructure providers needed to run the service:

  • Our hosting provider, which runs the servers and database.
  • Our email provider, which delivers verification, password reset and notification messages.
  • Stripe, which processes subscription payments. If you subscribe, your card details are entered on Stripe's own payment page and go straight to Stripe — they never pass through, and are never stored on, our servers. Stripe receives your email address and the fact that you are subscribing to Lone Tradie, and handles your card as the payment processor. We only ever see the last four digits and the card brand, shown back to you in the billing portal.

We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the rights or safety of our users.

Where it's stored and how it's protected

Data is held in a PostgreSQL database that is not exposed to the public internet. Traffic to and from the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Password reset and email verification links are stored only as hashes, are single-use, and expire. Every record is scoped to the account that owns it, so one account cannot read another's data.

No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any regulator as required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, the account and the records belonging to it — customers, jobs, quotes, invoices, finance entries and your published page — are deleted with it.

Everything else — sign-in sessions, password reset and email verification links, error diagnostics and backups — has a defined retention period. Our Data Retention Policy lists the period for each one. A record you delete can still exist in a backup until that backup is rotated out.

Your rights

  • Access and portability — view your data at any time in the app, and export it from the app.
  • Correction — edit anything you have entered directly in the app.
  • Deletion — delete individual records, or your whole account, from the app.
  • Complaint — if you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first, and you may also complain to your local privacy regulator.

Depending on where you live you may have further rights, such as objecting to or restricting certain processing. Email us and we'll help.

Children

Lone Tradie is a tool for running a business and is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
