Policies
Last updated: 8 August 2026
Everything that governs how we run Lone Tradie and handle your information, in one place.
- Privacy Policy — what we hold, why we hold it, and the rights you have over it.
- Terms of Service — the agreement between you and us for using the service.
- Data Retention Policy — how long each kind of record is kept, and when it is deleted. Set out in full below.
Data Retention Policy
We keep information only as long as it is useful for running your account or required for security, and we delete it on a defined schedule after that. The periods below describe what the software actually does.
Your account and business records
Your account and everything filed under it — customers, jobs, quotes, templates, invoices, finance entries, mileage trips, your logo and your published page — are kept for as long as your account exists. There is no inactivity timer: we do not delete an account for going quiet.
When you delete your account from Settings, those records are deleted with it in the same operation, your published page is taken down, and any subscription is cancelled so you are not charged again. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone — we cannot restore an account after you delete it.
How long each kind of record lasts
| What | How long | What happens then |
|---|---|---|
| Account and business records | Until you delete your account | Deleted with the account |
| Sign-in session cookie | 7 days | Expires; signing out clears it immediately |
| Password reset link | 1 hour | Expires, and is single-use |
| Email verification link | 24 hours | Expires, and is single-use |
| Error diagnostics (page, status code, error message, browser user-agent) | 30 days | Deleted automatically by a scheduled job |
| Enquiries sent to your public page | Until you delete them | Deleted when you delete the message, or with your account |
| Anti-abuse counters and sign-in captcha challenges | 10 minutes or less | Held in memory only, never written to the database, and cleared when the service restarts |
| Billing records we hold (Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, status, renewal date) | Until you delete your account | Deleted with the account |
| Payment records held by Stripe | Set by Stripe | Kept by Stripe for as long as its own financial and legal obligations require, independently of your account here |
| Database backups | 7 days | Taken daily and overwritten on rotation |
Password reset and email verification links are stored only as a one-way hash — the link itself is never kept — and the remaining record is removed when the account is deleted.
What we deliberately do not keep
- IP addresses are used to rate-limit sign-in attempts and public enquiry forms, and are held in memory only. They are never written to the database and are lost when the service restarts.
- Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read them.
- Behavioural or advertising profiles. There is no analytics, no advertising network and no cross-site tracking, so there is nothing of that kind to retain.
Backups
Backups are taken daily and kept for 7 days, so your data can be restored after a failure. A deleted record can therefore still exist in a backup for up to 7 days before that backup is rotated out. Backups are not used to bring back deleted accounts.
Getting your data out
You can export your data as a CSV file from Settings at any time, before or instead of deleting anything. Doing so does not delete anything.
Cookies and local storage
Lone Tradie uses one cookie, and it is required for the service to work: the sign-in session cookie, which tells the app you are logged in. It contains no advertising or tracking identifier.
The app also remembers a few preferences in your own browser's local storage — your light or dark theme choice, and whether you have dismissed a notice. These never leave your device, are not readable by us, and are cleared when you clear your browser data.
Because none of this is used for analytics, advertising or tracking, there is no consent banner to click through. If we ever add anything that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first rather than assume it.
